Three generations,
one house
Art to be worn. Wealth to be inherited.
Some things are bought to be used. Jewellery, made well, is bought to be kept. That idea has guided our house since 1984: that a jewel should be a work of art first, beautiful enough to be worn for a lifetime, and an investment second, made of gold and stones that hold their worth long after fashions change.
The Pincha family founded the house in Kolkata in 1984 as a complete jewellery house, and it has always been one. High jewellery for the great occasions, everyday luxury for the days in between, and bridal sets for the wedding that joins them. As Pearl Gem & Jewelry the house grew the way good family businesses in this city grow: slowly, by recommendation, one family at a time. Clients came back for their daughters, and then for their granddaughters.
What did not change was the way the work was done. Every piece was drawn by hand. Every stone was chosen by a member of the family. Every setting was made by craftsmen, karigars, many of whom have stayed with the house for most of their working lives.

Gaurav Pincha
Gaurav grew up among trays of stones and the sound of the workshop. He went on to study gemology at the Gemological Institute of America and returned as a Graduate Gemologist, bringing a scientist’s eye to a craft his family had always practised by instinct.
Under his direction the house has kept its old methods and added new ones: computer-aided design for the most intricate settings, careful sourcing of natural diamonds and coloured stones, and a studio where every jewel is photographed and recorded before it leaves.
The house is accredited by IAGES, a member of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), and an authorised dealer of MMTC-PAMP gold and silver. Our diamonds are certified by GIA, IGI and SGL.
Clients describe him the same way: patient, honest, and unwilling to let a piece go until it is right.

Why our name changed
For most of our history our clients knew us as Pearl Gem & Jewelry. Many still do, and we are glad of it. But over the years they began to ask for the jeweller by name, and to say they were going to Gaurav’s. In 2026 we made it official.
The legal name of the business remains Pearl Gem and Jewelry. The house, the craftsmen and the family are the same. Only the name on the door is new.
